What are the Benefits of a Quality Soft Tissue Massage?

Massage
Soft tissue massage involves direct physical action on the muscle and other soft tissues of your body. Soft tissue massage targets your muscles, tendons, ligaments, or other connective tissue such as fascia. Massage is the best known example of a soft tissue technique.
Soft tissue massages include a whole range of massage depths, pressures and durations. Your  massage therapist is a professional who understands what techniques are right for your body at any given time.
A Soft Tissue Massage aims to alleviate aches, pains and injuries that are attributed to your body’s soft tissues.

Soft Tissue Massage Benefits

A Soft Tissue Massage is a specific type of massage which aids in relaxing muscles, increases blood circulation and lymph flow, improves the healing time of strained ligaments and muscular tissue, reduces the inflammation of joints and heart rate, improves range of motion and joint flexibility, increases endorphins, strengthens the immune system, decreases spasms, improves oxygen flow and helps to relieve muscle tension.
It also has a wide variety of mental benefits, including the ability to induce a very relaxed state of mind.
Getting a good massage has been shown to do the following things:
  • Release adhesions, improving range of motion
  • Decrease blood pressure
  • Increase the production of hemoglobin
  • Dilate coronary arteries
  • Enhance athletic performance
  • Ease stiffness and pain in arthritis sufferers
  • Enhance efficiency and problem-solving ability by improving brain alpha-beta wave correspondence
  • Protect memory by lowering the stress hormones that attack the hippocampus
  • Ease discomforts associated with pregnancy, premenstrual tension and menopause
Reduce symptoms associated with fibromyalgia.

Common Soft Tissue Massage Techniques

There are several different massage techniques including:

Trigger Points

A trigger point massage provides relief from chronic muscle pain. It targets the muscles and promotes flexibility of the body’s connective tissue.

Swedish Massage

This technique can also be referred to as the broad handed technique. It is used to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from muscles.

Friction

Friction creates heat used to promote healing in an injured area.
